A Tale of Three Cities

I had never been to Los Angeles before being accepted to USC. After being here for a few months, I realized how different and diverse the city is. Coming from New York, I'm used to a more uniform looking city, and was shocked by how different the neighborhoods in Los Angeles felt. Los Angeles has one of the largest income inequality gaps in the country, and this is made clear on a daily basis. USC, for instance, contrasts greatly with the notorious South Central neighbor hood surrounding our campus. I saw that there were several different sides to Los Angeles, and focused on the neighborhoods of Skid Row, Venice Beach, and Beverly Hills to show this juxtaposition. Additionally, I used post processing to further highlight these distinctions by adjusting the saturation on each photo. I have always been intrigued by contrast, and how to differently composed images can convey different emotions.
